Increased enforcement efforts on lakes, rivers and streams June 30-July 2

Wildlife officers throughout Arkansas and the United States are gearing up for Operation Dry Water – a weekend of increased enforcement throughout the nation to prevent instances of boating under the influence of alcohol or drugs. This year’s Operation Dry Water runs June 30 through July 2.

Twenty-nine win elk permits for the 2017 Arkansas elk hunt

Twenty-nine Arkansans will have the opportunity to hunt for and harvest an Arkansas elk during the public land elk hunts this October and November after being drawn during the annual Buffalo River Elk Festival.

AGFC partnering with Big Bass Bonanza to stock bass in Arkansas River

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is looking for volunteers to help stock black bass fingerlings in prime habitat along the Arkansas River during this year’s Simmons Bank Big Bass Bonanza, June 23-25. Hatchery trucks will be available at each weigh-in station Friday morning with oxygenated bags of fingerling-sized largemouth bass for anglers to take with them and place in high-quality habitat during the tournament. 

Trumpeter swan on 2017 Junior Duck Stamp inspires information on the species

An image of two trumpeter swans rising from the cattails will be honored with production as the 2017 Junior Duck Stamp at the official first day of sale being held at Bass Pro Shops in Little Rock, 11 a.m., June 23. The fantastic image grabbed the attention of judges at the Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest in April, just as the species has been fascinating Arkansans for decades.

AGFC receives funding for one quail biologist, seeks approval for six more

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, which has already received matching funds from the Natural Resources Conservation Service to bring aboard a biologist devoted to habitat restoration for the northern bobwhite, is hoping that more NRCS money could be coming its way to bolster the AGFC’s quail initiative.
