AGFC drafts Dugger to lead new Private Lands Division

LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Director Austin Booth recently announced the promotion of Garrick Dugger, former assistant chief of the agency’s Wildlife Management Division, to head up the AGFC Private Lands Habitat Division, a section of the agency devoted to increasing wildlife habitat throughout privately held land of The Natural State.

Ed Gordon Point Remove WMA Flying High into Waterfowl Season

BLACKWELL – Residents near Ed Gordon Point Remove Wildlife Management Area might have noticed all the airplanes flying around the last two days of September. Several crop dusters, contracted by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission were flying nearly nonstop to deliver fertilizer and lime to 350 acres of the WMA’s moist-soil units.

Arkansas’s wild turkey survey indicates 10-year high in reproduction

SPRINGDALE — Commissioners with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission heard some good news about Arkansas’s turkey population during a presentation at today’s monthly meeting held at the J.B. and Johnelle Hunt Family Ozark Highlands Nature Center. AGFC Turkey Program Coordinator Jeremy Wood gave some preliminary results of the 2022 Wild Turkey Population Survey, which indicates some of the best reproduction in parts of Arkansas since 2012.

An angler from Kansas (left) was fishing with guide Austin Kennedy (right) when he brought in this nice walleye out of the Beaver Lake tailwater below the Beaver Lake Dam. This tank of a walleye measured  31.5 inches and weighed over 13 pounds, Austin reports.

WMA named after Arkansas conservationist Kirk Dupps

ROGERS - The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission honored one of its former commissioners by adding Kirk Dupps’ name to Northwest Arkansas’s Beaver Lake Wildlife Management Area adjoining Devil’s Eyebrow Natural Area. The unanimous vote to recognize Dupps with this honor was held in a special meeting Oct. 5. The official announcement was held at Tuesday’s special Night of Conservation event held in Garfield with Dupps and family present.

STUTTGART — Arkansas’s white-fronted goose season kicks off Oct. 29, putting an end to the duck depression for many Arkansas waterfowl hunters. Early specklebelly goose hunting presents a challenge in locating a place to hunt if you don’t have access to farms through friends or a hunting lease, but the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has a solution.
