Apply for an Arkansas elk permit beginning May 1

LITTLE ROCK – The application period for Arkansas’s public land elk hunting permits is open from 8 a.m., May 1 until 11:59 p.m. June 1. Hunters interested in pursuing Arkansas's largest big-game animal can apply beginning May 1 at https://ar-web.s3licensing.com and select the Special Hunt Applications button to begin the process.

Federal partnership expands opportunity for wetland habitat and hunter access program

LITTLE ROCK — A special landowner program offered through the Natural Resources Conservation Service may create even more wetland habitat in Arkansas this winter. It also has the potential to increase public hunting opportunities for ducks and geese and wildlife-viewing locations for a variety of migratory species.

Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to add 550 acres of high-quality habitat to Northwest Arkansas WMA

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission today authorized AGFC Director Austin Booth to enter into an agreement with The Nature Conservancy to purchase 550 acres of property joining two sections of McIlroy Madison County Wildlife Management Area in Northwest Arkansas at its monthly meeting at the AGFC headquarters.

Mrs. Willie Bethea of Camden, a client of Millwood Lake Guide Service, was fishing with her husband and enjoyed the crappie bite on Millwood this past week, despite the darkening skies and impending rain. Guide Mackey Harvin took his clients to the crappie hot spots. Warmer temperatures helped the bite, and crappie have begun migrating to cypress trees for their spring spawning ground movements at Millwood. A few nice 2- to 2.5-pound crappie have been hitting jigs and minnows over the last week. They've also been hitting bass anglers' baits, such as spinnerbaits and lizards, which fishing the cypress stands. Photo provided by Mike Siefert.
