Rae passes baton to Young as AGFC chief of enforcement

LITTLE ROCK – Brad Young credits strong mentorship through his almost 11 years with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission for preparing him well for his new role as the agency’s chief of enforcement. The 39-year-old Young, who lives in his boyhood home of Woodlawn in Cleveland County, officially takes over for the retiring Col. Greg Rae on May 31, but notes that a smooth transition has been underway since March. Young, who began his AGFC career in 2010 as a wildlife officer first class in Monticello, has worked alongside Rae as major for the past four years before being promoted to colonel and chief of the division.

Bentonville angler lands rare ‘golden’ largemouth bass

BENTONVILLE – Josh Rogers never had a doubt he had caught a largemouth bass while fishing Sunday evening at Beaver Lake. But with its golden hue, he wondered what might be up with this fish.

James Lasley of Little Rock caught this nice 5-pound largemouth bass from a private pond just outside of town using a do-nothing worm on a light spinning rod. His dad, who provided the photo, says James lost another fish about the same size about 10 minutes later. Still, what a prize on that catch!

Harrisburg trap team takes top honors in AYSSP East Regional

JACKSONVILLE – Harrisburg Hornet Trap Team’s Squad No. 2 was about as close to perfection Saturday as any team has ever been in Arkansas Youth Shooting Sports Program regional tournament play. Two Harrisburg shooters, Gilbert Palmer and Luke Clayton, had perfect 50-for-50 sessions, and the five-person team only missed four shots total in compiling 246 points and running away with the East Region senior division at the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation Jacksonville Shooting Sports Complex.
