Hunters urged to clean, drain and dry during duck season

LITTLE ROCK – As waterfowl hunters across Arkansas continue to pace the floor waiting for the opening day of duck season, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission would like to remind them to keep it clean this year, and if you can, keep it drained and dry, too.

Apply to hunt an Arkansas WRICE field this year

LITTLE ROCK — Hunters who haven’t found a lease but still want the opportunity to hunt agricultural land this duck season may want to turn to a WRICE field. “WRICE” isn’t a typo; it stands for Waterfowl Rice Incentive Conservation Enhancement, a new program from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to increase waterfowl habitat and hunting access in The Natural State.

Commission takes town hall to Stuttgart

STUTTGART — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will hold an open town hall-style meeting from 6 to 8 p.m., Nov. 20, at Grand Prairie Center in Stuttgart. The public is invited to come and ask the Commissioners questions and learn more information about the agency’s work. The auditorium is at the Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas, 2807 U.S. Highway 165.

LITTLE ROCK — Hunters headed to deer camp to get things ready for opening weekend of modern gun deer season may want to make a quick pitstop to fuel up at their local star-struck fast-food chain. Every Hardee’s restaurant in Arkansas will give a free sausage biscuit to anyone who shows their valid hunting license to the cashier from 5-11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7.

Thefts of feral hog trapping equipment may lead to trouble at Fort Chaffee WMA

FT. SMITH — Many hunters have walked out of the woods angry after discovering the theft of a game camera set on their land. A current camera theft problem on Fort Chaffee Maneuver Training Center may have much further-reaching implications than hard feelings, however. The Army National Guard Installation and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission are asking for any help the public can offer in locating game cameras intended to help remove feral hogs on the property.

Public meeting on Lake Poinsett renovation, Nov. 12

HARRISBURG — Fisheries biologists with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will hold a public meeting at Calvary Baptist Church at 6 p.m., Nov. 12, to discuss the progress of the ongoing renovation of Lake Poinsett. The church is at 503 S. Illinois Ave. in Harrisburg.
