Applications to hunt turkeys on Arkansas WMAs available Jan. 15

LITTLE ROCK – Turkey season may open at the beginning of April, but now is the time to begin planning for a successful season. One of the best ways to be successful on public land is to apply for one of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s wildlife management area turkey hunt permits beginning Jan. 15.

AGFC hosts public workshop on Spring River trout fishery

MAMMOTH SPRING — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will host a special public workshop about trout management on the Spring River from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Jan. 13 at the Mammoth Spring School Complex. The complex is at 410 Goldsmith Ave. in Mammoth Spring.

Giant salvinia creeps into Lake Columbia

MAGNOLIA — Fisheries biologists with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission confirmed this week that giant salvinia, a harmful invasive plant, has been found in Lake Columbia in Columbia County.

LITTLE ROCK — Biologists with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission are seeking public input on the current revision to Arkansas’s White-tailed Deer Strategic Management Plan. This is the first review and revision of the plan since 2013.

Fur-handling workshop scheduled for Jonesboro and Fort Smith nature centers

JONESBORO — The Forrest L. Wood Crowley’s Ridge Nature Center in Jonesboro will host a special introduction to fur-handling workshop from 6-9 p.m., Jan. 9, 2020. The workshop will feature Charlie Bass, a longtime trapper and fur provider for national and international markets.

Woods to School nutrition program connects hunters to children in need

JONESBORO — Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry, in cooperation with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and the Craighead County Community Foundation, provided 4,000 packages of Arkansas-sourced venison snack sticks to less fortunate students in the Nettleton and Buffalo Island school districts in Jonesboro as part of its expanding Woods to School program that will provide 50,000 packages of snack sticks to students in 75 Arkansas schools this year.
