Disabled veterans enjoy deer hunt weekend in southeast Arkansas

ARKANSAS CITY – For the third straight year, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and the national organization Freedom Defender Outdoors were able to provide a special weekend of modern gun deer hunting and bonding for disabled veterans. Five veterans were invited to a permit deer hunt at the Freddie Black Choctaw Island Wildlife Management Area West Unit the weekend of Oct. 25-27.

Public meeting on Lake Poinsett renovation, Nov. 12

HARRISBURG — Fisheries biologists with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will hold a public meeting at Calvary Baptist Church at 6 p.m., Nov. 12, to discuss the progress of the ongoing renovation of Lake Poinsett. The church is at 503 S. Illinois Ave. in Harrisburg.
 

2019-20 Arkansas Waterfowl Hunting Guidebook available online

LITTLE ROCK – The latest edition of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s waterfowl hunting guidebook is at the printer and will be delivered to AGFC regional offices and license dealers throughout the state in the next few weeks. For those duck-hunting die-hards who want to get a headstart on their reading, the digital version is available at www.agfc.com/guidebooks. The downloads of all Arkansas guidebooks are in Adobe Portable Document Format (.pdf) and may be saved to smartphones for easy access at any time.

Online test adds convenience for Arkansas Hunter Education course

LITTLE ROCK – With fall air finally making an appearance in The Natural State, many people are looking for a way to enjoy some time outdoors. For hunting, that can mean scrambling to find a hunter education class at the last minute. While free in-person classes are always much more informative and beneficial, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission offers a complete hunter education course online to fill those last-minute needs.

AGFC looking for deer stand research assistants

LITTLE ROCK – Hunters can help the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s wildlife management efforts through the AGFC’s free Deer Hunting Observation Survey available through the AGFC app on their smartphone. The app is available through both the iTunes app store and the Google Play store.

Youth bass fishing team earns $1,000 without wetting a line

MT. IDA — The anglers of Lake Ouachita High School Fishing Team may still be a few years from taking on the challenge of top-level tournament angling, but they already are showing the character of true sportsmen and women through their conservation actions. The team netted a $1,000 grant from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to help fund their organization after successfully completing a fish habitat project on Lake Ouachita this summer.

Commission approves new veterans waterfowl hunt in Arkansas
