Turn spring break into a nature break this year with the AGFC

LITTLE ROCK — Each year thousands of parents across The Natural State spend the last week or two of March racking their brains trying to find fun family activities they can enjoy with their children while they’re out of school for spring break. Instead of wasting away the kids’ days off from school, take advantage of the opportunity to plan an outdoor adventure at an Arkansas Game and Fish Commission nature center.

Aerial feral hog eradication efforts to temporarily close access to WMAs

MONTICELLO – Six Arkansas Game and Fish Commission wildlife management areas will be temporarily closed for short periods in March in cooperation with rthe Arkansas Feral Hog Task Force to fight the spread of invasive feral swine in Arkansas. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Wildlife Services will be conducting aerial operations aimed at reducing feral hog populations in the areas. The flights will be dependent on the weather.  

Bergman takes high school state archery championship, Barton and Washington round out middle and elementary divisions

HOT SPRINGS — Bergman High School walked away with a decisive victory in the High School Division of the 15th annual Archery in the Schools State Championship held Saturday at Bank OZK Arena. Bergman’s  top 12 archers posted an impressive 3,285 points out of a possible 3,600 to walk away with the state crown.

Aerial surveys show slight increase in Arkansas elk population

JASPER — Arkansas Game and Fish Commission biologists took to the skies during the last two weeks to evaluate the status of Arkansas’s elk herd, and preliminary results indicate the population is again on the rise.

2022-23 deer harvest up from 2021-22 season

LITTLE ROCK – Arkansas’s 2022-23 deer season concluded Feb. 28, and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s deer program coordinator expects the final harvest totals to finish higher than last year’s 181,379 total, but likely down about 15,000 deer from where the state has averaged during the last decade.

AGFC cuts ribbon on new nature center attraction

SPRINGDALE – Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Chairman Bobby Martin and AGFC staff welcomed local leaders and community members today to cut the ribbon on a new playground at the J.B. and Johnelle Hunt Family Ozark Highlands Nature Center in Springdale.
