LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas’s archery deer season opens Sept. 25. That may seem like a lifetime away for some dyed-in-the-wool hunters, but it’s a blink of an eye if you haven’t gotten your archery equipment and focus prepared. Now’s the perfect time to test your equipment and skills to be deadly accurate this season when you climb in the treestand or ground blind for the first time.
Lake Jack Nolen set for fall drawdown

GREENWOOD — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will lower the water level of Lake Jack Nolen following the Labor Day Holiday. The drawdown will lower the lake’s water level by 3 to 5 feet and should last until mid-winter.

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission works with landowners to reserve areas specially managed for dove hunts throughout the state. Hunting spots in these areas are managed by random drawing, with applications costing only $5. Hunters drawn may bring one friend to hunt from their position as well.
Renovation of Henry Gray Hurricane Lake WMA to begin

BALD KNOB — Contractors with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will begin removing water-control structures on Henry Gray Hurricane Lake Wildlife Management Area to restore drainage to the Little Red River beginning next week. This is the first of many major renovations planned for greentree reservoirs in Arkansas that have helped make public duck hunting one of the state’s largest outdoor industries.

FORT SMITH - Myron Means, large carnivore program coordinator for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, will host a series of seminars at AGFC nature centers throughout the state during August and September to teach people about one of Arkansas’s most prized hunts and the state’s former namesake.
Public meetings on CWD set for northeast towns

LITTLE ROCK — Two public meetings in August will give northeast Arkansans a chance to visit with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Wildlife Management and Research division staffers and other experts to discuss chronic wasting disease and its status in the neighboring states of Missouri and Tennessee.
Backcountry Hunters and Anglers hosting deer hunting field day

MAYFLOWER — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will partner with the Arkansas chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers to help people get into gear for this year’s upcoming deer hunting season. The two organizations will host a special field day from 9 a.m.-noon August 21 at the Multipurpose Building of Camp Robinson Special Use Area in Mayflower.
