Adam Mitchell's smallmouth catch in the photo may not have been the biggest fish around, but Spring River guide Mark Crawford assures that it was "a strong fighter." Adam and Mark beat the sudden winter-like temps for a good day of smallmouth fishing on the Spring, which is low right now, but the weather should turn back to brisk, fall-like temps with sun this weekend. You're never too young to start appreciating the brown trout that are prevalent in the White River at Cotter. Browns are beginning to make their reeds, the areas where they leave their eggs during spawning season, in shoals around the White, so watch out for them. LITTLE ROCK —  The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and Arkansas Fly Fishers will host a special fly-fishing event from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Witt Stephens Jr. Central Arkansas Nature Center in the River Market District of Downtown Little Rock. Anyone interested in fly-fishing, fly-tying or simply enjoying the beauty of a stream flowing through the mountains in fall is encouraged to attend.

AGFC stops the slide at Lake Overcup

MORRILTON — Contractors working with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will begin work this week at Lake Overcup to repair damage to the backside of the lake’s dam to protect its overall integrity.
