13-year-old Arkansan on quest to complete Outdoor Skills program

MAYFLOWER — Spending time in the outdoors is often its own reward, a recently added program from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission offers extra incentives to building your outdoor skills. Just ask Anthony Long-Irby of Mayflower. He’s collected nearly all the achievements the AGFC’s Outdoor Skills Patch Program has to offer at only 13 years old.

Keep wildlife wild, leave ‘orphans’ alone

LITTLE ROCK — Each year, biologists with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission get calls from worried conservation-minded individuals who happen across a young, helpless-looking deer, rabbits and birds that have apparently lost their mother. Moving those animals may be one of the worst things you can do to help it, and in the case of white-tailed deer fawns, taking it home can even land you in trouble with the law.

New program opens doors to natural education

LITTLE ROCK — Thanks to a new program offered through the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, teachers looking for ways to incorporate the outdoors into physical education can have ready-made curriculums ready to go for the next school year. The Outdoor Adventures program created and administered through the Outdoors Tomorrow Foundation enables teachers to choose from a variety of outdoors skills to create a semester-long class that qualifies for a physical education credit.

Recovering America’s Wildlife Act reintroduced in Washington

WASHINGTON, DC — A bill introduced last week into the U.S. House of Representatives may, if it passes, boost conservation efforts across the nation. The Recovering America’s Wildlife Act was reintroduced to the U.S. House of Representatives by Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) and Congressman Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE).

LITTLE ROCK – Winter’s last gasp may keep some frogs quiet during the night this week, but bullfrogs should be sounding off at night again soon, and frog-gigging fanatics will be back to chasing them on ponds and lakes throughout Arkansas. Bullfrog season opened April 15 and will run through Dec. 31.

Gov. Hutchinson emphasizes importance of waterfowl, rice to Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK — Representatives from Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, Ducks Unlimited, the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation, the Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus and USA Rice stood in unison with Gov. Asa Hutchinson today to announce the passage of House Concurrent Resolution 1014 in support of efforts to boost waterfowl and waterfowl habitat in The Natural State.
