AGFC provides $769,000 to Arkansas schools for conservation education

LITTLE ROCK — Commissioners with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission passed a minute order at today’s meeting to transfer $769,564 to the Arkansas Division of Rural Services to offer grants for conservation education efforts throughout Arkansas. The money was collected during the last year from fines for wildlife and fishing regulations violations.

LITTLE ROCK - Five private rice fields that are part of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Waterfowl Rice Incentive Conservation Enhancement program are being made available to public hunters via draw for next weekend, Sept. 25-26, during the state’s special early teal season.

Arkansas alligator season opens Sept. 17

LITTLE ROCK — Arkansans looking for adventure in the wetlands may want to call a friend in south Arkansas to see if there’s an opportunity to take part in this year’s private land alligator hunt Sept. 17-20 and Sept. 24-27. While public hunting opportunities have all been awarded through the AGFC’s draw process in July, private land hunting for alligators follows a quota system that offers more opportunities for people who weren’t lucky enough to draw a public hunting permit.
Changes to east Arkansas hunting areas planned to save duck habitat

LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Director Austin Booth announced last Thursday at a special press conference that the AGFC will make changes to existing water management schedules on three of Arkansas’s popular wildlife management areas to protect critical habitat for wintering waterfowl.
AGFC airdrops habitat at Tri-County Lake

FORDYCE — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission does dozens of habitat-enhancement projects at lakes throughout the state to boost angling opportunities, but a recent project at Mike Knoedl Tri-County Lake will offer added food and habitat for ducks as well as the fish that use this 280-acre Calhoun County reservoir. Millet was broadcast by airplane over roughly 100 acres of exposed shoreline to benefit waterfowl during their 2021-22 winter migration.
Public meetings on CWD set for northeast towns

LITTLE ROCK — Two public meetings in August will give northeast Arkansans a chance to visit with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Wildlife Management and Research division staffers and other experts to discuss chronic wasting disease and its status in the neighboring states of Missouri and Tennessee.
