Lake Poinsett’s refilling to begin with dam closure on Dec. 1

HARRISBURG – The gate at the Lake Poinsett dam, situated a little less than 4 miles southeast of here, will be closed Dec. 1 by Arkansas Game and Fish personnel, allowing the lake to begin refilling with rainwater following a renovation of the fishery, lake shoreline and the water control structure, a process that shut down the lake for three years and was officially completed last week.

LITTLE ROCK – The application period to catch and keep a trophy-size Arkansas alligator gar opens Nov. 1 and closes Dec. 31. Only 100 tags will be awarded for the 2021 calendar year. This tag is required to harvest an alligator gar larger than 36 inches.
Outdoor Adventures program creates new outdoors opportunities for Arkansas schools, students

LITTLE ROCK — Thanks to a partnership between the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and the Outdoors Tomorrow Foundation, Arkansas schools can now add semester-length programs focused on outdoor recreation that qualify for a Physical Education credit.
AGFC extends deadline to apply for more than $735,000 in education grants

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and Arkansas Economic Development Commission’s Department of Rural Services have extended the deadline for educators to apply for free money to help teach conservation education in Arkansas. Interested schools and educators can apply for more than $735,000 in education grants by Oct. 22, 2020.

Many hunters heading to the woods should take a second look at an Arkansas Hunting Guidebook before heading to the woods, especially if the deer zone where they traditionally hunt ended in an “A.”

Arkansas Feral Hog Task Force offers new handbook to help control nuisance pigs

LITTLE ROCK – Thanks to a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service to the Arkansas Feral Hog Eradication Task Force, landowners will have more knowledge available than ever before in their fight against feral hogs. Last week, the Arkansas Department of Agriculture announced the release of the newly created Arkansas Feral Hog Handbook, a guide to resources available in Arkansas to assist with feral hog control and eradication.
