AGFC, Historic Cane Hill debut newest Bobwhite Conservation Stamp

LINCOLN – Clay Connor’s rendering of a quail sitting on barbed-wire fencing above shrubby cover and native grasses, entitled “Beyond the Wire at Summits Ridge,” was unveiled Saturday, Sept. 12, as the image on the 2020-21 Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Northern Bobwhite Conservation Stamp in a ceremony held at nearby Historic Cane Hill.

Old decoys spark new interest in outdoors

PINE BLUFF — It happens every September. Duck hunters across the country begin to feel the need to dig through their gear and make plans for opening day. Sporting goods stores begin moving waterfowl-hunting equipment from storage to their shelves, and hunters are bombarded with the latest realistic decoys promised to make their next season a success. But what happens to the old decoys left behind in the garage? Eric Maynard, assistant chief of education for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, has a solution to the situation — the AGFC decoy adoption center. 

AGFC, AEDC offering more than $735,000 in wildlife fine money for education grants

LITTLE ROCK — With students headed back to school, be it in-person or online, education is again in full swing in Arkansas, and so is the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Education Division. Thanks to fine money collected throughout the state for hunting and fishing violations, educators can increase some of their outdoor educational opportunities by applying by Oct. 8 for Wildlife Fine Grants administered through the Arkansas Economic Development Commission’s (AEDC) Department of Rural Services.

Water gardens gaining ground on Arkansas fisheries

ARKADELPHIA — When Sean Lusk graduated from Auburn University with a master’s degree in fisheries management, he never dreamed his future would include taking up water gardening in Arkansas, but during the last two years he and other biologists have been hard at work planting, potting and growing aquatic vegetation in an effort to restore the once vibrant fishery at DeGray Lake.
