Renovation of Henry Gray Hurricane Lake WMA to begin

BALD KNOB — Contractors with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will begin removing water-control structures on Henry Gray Hurricane Lake Wildlife Management Area to restore drainage to the Little Red River beginning next week. This is the first of many major renovations planned for greentree reservoirs in Arkansas that have helped make public duck hunting one of the state’s largest outdoor industries.

STUTTGART - Former AGFC Commissioner W.R. “Witt” Stephens Jr. and former AGFC Biologist and Assistant Director Carl Hunter will be added into the Arkansas Waterfowler Hall of Fame in an induction ceremony September 23 at Chenal Country Club in Little Rock. Members of the 2020 class also will be recognized as COVID-19 forced the cancellation of last year’s event.
Commission pursues opportunity with ASU to expand Cypress Bayou Wildlife Management Area

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission voted unanimously at today’s meeting to authorize the agency’s director to enter into a 10-year cooperative agreement with Arkansas State University to manage a 160-acre tract bordering Cypress Bayou WMA in White County and allow public hunting access to that property under the current regulations of the wildlife management area.
AGFC looking for rice producers to participate in habitat, hunting access program

LITTLE ROCK — There’s still time for Arkansas rice growers to apply to enroll their fields in the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Waterfowl Rice Incentive Conservation Enhancement program and earn as much as $150 per acre without impacting current production on their fields. Applications are available at www.agfc.com/wrice and will be accepted until June 1.

AGFC ‘pulling the plugs’ at Henry Gray Hurricane Lake WMA

GEORGETOWN — People traveling along Mallard Pond Road in Henry Gray Hurricane Lake Wildlife Management Area will soon notice some changes to their route to help eliminate drainage issues responsible for declining forest health on the WMA. AGFC contractors and staff are gearing up to open many plugged drains along the road this year, replacing them with bridges and low-water crossings.
