AGFC holds virtual roundtable on deer disease

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will host a special virtual roundtable meeting with professionals in the wildlife management and veterinary fields to discuss management strategies and current science involving Chronic Wasting Disease beginning at 8:30 a.m. June 25. The virtual meeting will be streamed live on the AGFC’s YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/user/ArkansasGameandFish.

Buffalo River Elk Festival canceled, elk permits to be drawn online

JASPER — The Buffalo River Elk Festival, originally planned for June 26-27 has been canceled, according to a social media post today from the festival planning committee. The cancellation was in accordance with Arkansas Department of Health guidelines amid the continuing battle to slow the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19.

2020 Elk Hunt permit application available May 1

LITTLE ROCK – The application period for Arkansas’s public land elk hunting permits is open from 8 a.m., May 1 until 11:59 p.m. June 1.

AGFC holds CWD public meeting in Batesville Jan. 30

BATESVILLE — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will hold a public meeting to discuss the recent discovery of chronic wasting disease in Independence County at the University of Arkansas Community College, Room 902 of the Nursing and Allied Health Building in Batesville at 6 p.m. Jan. 30. The college is at 2005 White Drive.

Commission hears 2019 elk, bear harvest reports

LITTLE ROCK – Arkansas’s bear and elk harvests showed slight declines during the 2019 season, but biologists with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission said much of the decrease could be attributed to last year’s extremely productive hard mast crop during presentations to Commissioners at today’s regularly scheduled meeting here.

CWD-positive deer found in Independence County

OIL TROUGH – A new case of chronic wasting disease has been found in Independence County. A hunter-harvested white-tailed deer taken east of Oil Trough tested positive for the disease.

Twenty-Nine Arkansans draw elk hunting permits

JASPER – Twenty-nine Arkansans will have the hunt of a lifetime this fall as they chase elk on public land in The Natural State. Their names were chosen during the 22nd Annual Buffalo River Elk Festival in Jasper Saturday.
