‘Big Catch’ fishing derby and clinic returns for third year

LITTLE ROCK – The largest community fishing event in Arkansas kicks off at 9 a.m., Saturday, April 21 at MacArthur Park in Little Rock, and it’s absolutely free. Join the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Family and Community Fishing Program and Community First Alliance, Inc. at this spring’s “Big Catch” day of fun, food, fishing and prizes for the entire family.

LITTLE ROCK - Little Rock’s Christmas tree, which spent the holiday season wowing visitors on Capitol Avenue and Main Street, borrowed a page from New York City’s tree this year, with a small twist. Rockefeller Plaza trees historically have been used as lumber for Habitat for Humanity homes. Little Rock’s tree also was used for habitat, but it will stay true to The Natural State’s motto. The habitat it creates will benefit one of Little Rock’s family fishing destinations.

Martin Luther King Jr. Park Pond is stocked eight times a year by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, four times with catfish and four times with trout. The last catfish stocking of the year will coincide with a big new fall event: the Pine Bluff Get Youth Outdoors Day on Saturday, Oct. 21.
