Kirsten Bartlow, Watchable Wildlife Coordinator, will present "Surveying Wildlife Viewers in Arkansas". Nick Feltz, District 10 Fisheries Management Biologist, will present "Using Technology to Modernize Estimating Fishing Effort".

Habitat barges and hatcheries produce banner year for Arkansas anglers

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission hatchery system and its partners stocked more than 14.6 million fish into Arkansas waters last year, even with a massive renovation project limiting the output of the Jim Hinkle Spring River Fish Hatchery in Mammoth Spring. Add to that more than 650,000 cubic feet of cover placed in fish attractors throughout the state last year and Arkansas anglers have plenty to cheer about.

AGFC cleans up trash at Lake Wilhelmina

MENA — AGFC staff and Polk County recently gave Lake Wilhelmina in Polk County a thorough cleaning after wildlife officers were informed of a growing trash problem accumulating around the 200-acre AGFC-owned lake.

Hutton internship for high school students provides opportunity at AGFC

LITTLE ROCK – A Feb. 14 deadline is fast approaching for high school students to apply for one of four American Fisheries Society’s Hutton Scholar paid internships that will be available through the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission this summer. The AFS’ Junior Fisheries Biology Program internship and mentoring program is a summerlong, hands-on education experience designed primarily for minority and female high school students.

Join the build at Beaver Lake

ROGERS — The AGFC and Hook, Line and Sinker Outdoors are looking for volunteers interested in improving the fishing at Beaver Lake in Northwest Arkansas. They will host another round of Beaver Lake Habitat days Friday and Saturday, Oct, 14-15 to sink trees in the upper end of the lake in the Joe Creek area.

Commission keeps conservation work on track

LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas Game and Fish Commissioners at today’s meeting approved a $1 million budget transfer within the agency’s existing budget to complete the construction and installation of the Glaise Creek water-control structure on Henry Gray Hurricane Lake Wildlife Management Area to improve drainage and the capacity for sustainable bottomland hardwood forest management on the WMA.
