AGFC has grand gift idea for the last-minute holiday shopper

Anyone looking for a special gift for the waterfowl-obsessed man or woman on their Christmas list may want to make a special visit to an Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Nature Center this year. While supplies last, anyone who purchases a license or stamp at an AGFC nature center will receive a free softcover copy of Brent Birch’s book, “The Grand Prairie.”

Rice breast in ducks unsightly but no cause for alarm

LITTLE ROCK — Talk about rice in Arkansas, and the relationship to ducks and duck hunting isn’t far behind. One type of “rice” hunters may discover when duck hunting has nothing to do with Arkansas’s favorite grain, and often fuels calls to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s biologists and wildlife health line.

Christmas and antlerless-only deer hunts to wrap up 2020-21 modern gun deer season

Arkansans looking for one last chance to bag a deer at the end of the season this year will have three additional days to take a doe after the Modern Gun Christmas Holiday Hunt to fill their tag. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission unanimously voted in May to move the Private Land Antlerless Only Deer Hunt from the middle of October to the last days of December in hopes to increase participation in the hunt.

First youth and veteran waterfowl hunt of Arkansas’s 2020-21 season Saturday

LITTLE ROCK - The ducks have a brief rest between the segments of hunting season, but on Saturday, the first of two youth and veteran waterfowl hunts will have hunters back in the woods in search of Arkansas’s premiere game species. This year’s Special Active Duty Military and Veteran Waterfowl Hunt will again take place alongside Arkansas’s Special Youth Waterfowl Hunt Dec. 5, 2020, and Feb. 6, 2021.

CWD-positive deer confirmed in Logan County

DELAWARE, Ark. — A hunter-harvested white-tailed deer taken west of Delaware (Logan County) tested positive for chronic wasting disease, according to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Research, Evaluation and Compliance Division.
