Public dove fields planned for Sept. 5

LITTLE ROCK — The drawing for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s private land dove field program is complete, but if you did not draw there’s still plenty of opportunity to enjoy some time sitting on a bucket at a good location on opening weekend of dove season. The AGFC has dove fields on 22 wildlife management areas throughout the state and has worked with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to provide another on the Cache River National Wildlife Refuge for the 2020-21 dove season.

More than 3,800 acres added to waterfowl hunting opportunity in Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will offer an additional 3,828 acres of prime waterfowl hunting opportunity during the 2020-21 waterfowl season, thanks to the expansion of the Waterfowl Rice Incentive Conservation Easement Program. The program allows rice producers to enroll fields to increase waterfowl habitat near popular public waterfowl-hunting areas and to offer limited public hunting opportunities on private rice fields through an online drawing.
Dunlap to deliver wildlife resources to teachers through northwest Arkansas nature center

SPRINGDALE — Teachers in northwest Arkansas will have a new resource available for class programming and field trips when the J.B. and Johnelle Hunt Family Ozark Highlands Nature Center opens this fall, and some may recognize a familiar name when they call to ask about resources available to help them educate the next generation of hunters, anglers and other conservationists. Steve Dunlap, a 17-year veteran of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Education Division was recently chosen to lead educational programming for the center as well as outreach in the region.
Harvest Information Program registration sees changes in Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK — Beginning this year all hunters who wish to pursue doves, ducks, geese and other migratory birds in Arkansas will need to register for the Harvest Information Program either online at agfc.com, through the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission smartphone app or at an AGFC regional office, nature center or shooting range. In an effort to improve the quality of data being submitted to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Arkansas HIP registration will no longer be offered at license vendors such as sporting goods stores.
