Applications for hunting turkeys on Arkansas WMAs available

LITTLE ROCK – Turkey season may open at the beginning of April, but now is the time to begin planning for a successful season. One of the best ways to be successful on public land is to apply for one of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s wildlife management area turkey hunt permits.

STUTTGART — A rare visitor from the coastal marshes took an extended break in Arkansas during the first two segments of duck season this year. A whooping crane, one of the most recognized birds listed on the federal list of endangered species, spent the last three months bouncing around east Arkansas, primarily in fields between Roe and Aberdeen in western Monroe County.

LITTLE ROCK — It may sound simple enough to the everyday WMA waterfowl hunter, but to the newcomer or the not-so-veteran waterfowler using public land, scouting the area for ducks is best accomplished by watching how groups of ducks are flying from a resting area, according to Luke Naylor, the AGFC's waterfowl program coordinator.

Last youth modern gun deer hunt Jan. 5-6

LITTLE ROCK — The second modern gun deer hunt for youth hunters will take place across Arkansas this Saturday and Sunday. Only hunters who are 6 to 15 years of age may pursue deer with modern guns on this last chance of the season. Incorrect dates for the hunt were listed in a previous press release before the Christmas Holiday, and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission apologizes for the error.

CWD-positive deer found in Scott County

WALDRON  – Chronic wasting disease has been found in Scott County. A hunter-harvested white-tailed deer harvested north of Waldron tested positive for the disease, according to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.
