Braelyn Bridgeman, age 13, and his uncle Kyle celebrate the catch of a golden rainbow trout on Memorial Day. The trout was caught right above Crooked Creek before the catch-and-release area toward Rim Shoals while they were camping with family at the White Buffalo Resort. After this catch of a lifetime, Braelyn released the trout back to the waters for maybe someone else's future fishing story. Photo provided by Joanna Bishop.

Gary Harris caught this catfish on a Rat-L-Trap in shallow water late in the evening while bass fishing on Lake Ouachita last weekend. Catfish will begin spawning in later spring, so begin to look first for a nice flathead bite around the Memorial Day weekend holiday.

MONTICELLO — After two years of drawdowns and construction work, the city of Monticello was able to close the gates at its namesake lake in Drew County last week, hoping to see the fish and recreational opportunities in the reservoir flourish again once the lake refills.
AGFC lays fishing foundation at Lake Poinsett

HARRISBURG — The shovels may be done turning dirt at Lake Poinsett, but biologists are still busy laying the foundation for good fishing in the newly renovated lake in Poinsett County. Last week, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission stocked thousands of baitfish into the waters of the refilling lake in an effort to produce a fantastic fishery in the coming years.
