Free Fishing Weekend, derbies June 8-10

LITTLE ROCK – From noon Friday, June 8, through midnight Sunday night, June 10, no angler will need a fishing license or trout permit to fish anywhere in Arkansas.

AYSSP Teams Go Head-to-Head in Seniors, Juniors for State Championships June 1-2

JACKSONVILLE – Four teams in the senior division of the Arkansas Youth Shooting Sports Program regional tournaments established themselves as solid front-runners for Saturday’s State Championship round. Texarkana Arkansas Razorback Trap Team Red, Bald Knob Bulldog White and the Booneville Bearcats Team 1 each won its respective region by at least eight targets, and Greene County 4-H Team No. 2 outlasted a very strong East Regional by 5 targets over its nearest competitors.

Public meetings to update fisheries management on Lake Ouachita, June 7 and 26

HOT SPRINGS - Lake Ouachita reigns as one of the best fisheries in Arkansas. Its crystal clear waters accommodate many species of fish that anglers of all types enjoy. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is undergoing its scheduled review and revision process for the lake’s fisheries management plan, and would like to hear directly from the anglers who use this treasured resource. 

AGFC’s Pepper’s Pond welcomes Super Retriever dogs

MAYFLOWER – Pepper’s Pond, on the Camp Robinson Special Use Area and owned by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, will play host to the fifth Arkansas Retriever Challenge Super Retriever Series Event Friday through Sunday, June 1-3.
 

2018-19 urban deer hunt application period open

LITTLE ROCK - The application period for Arkansas’s special urban bowhunts for the 2018-19 hunting season is now open. Hunters interested in participating in the Cherokee Village, Russellville, Fairfield Bay, Horseshoe Bend, Heber Springs and Hot Springs Village hunts should visit http://www.arkansasbowhunters.org/UrbanHunt to register online or contact J.D. Outdoors-woman leaves legacy

LITTLE ROCK – Dalena Haynes of Leola had no children when she passed away in February of 2015 at age 47, but current and future generations of outdoors enthusiasts will no doubt benefit from her passion for wildlife and the natural world. Haynes, a former participant of the AGFC’s Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) program, left one-quarter of her estate to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to be used for BOW and the Arkansas Youth Shooting Sports Program, two of the AGFC’s well established recruitment efforts to get new people excited about the outdoors.
