Farm pond workshop at Lake Dardanelle State Park May 24

RUSSELLVILLE – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will hold a special workshop for landowners on how to manage their farm ponds for fish at a free workshop at the Lake Dardanelle State Park Visitor Center from 7 to 9 p.m., May 24.

Arkansas Wildlife Fishing Report

Most of our reports this week indicate that the warming water has the crappie and bass moving up shallow, while the bream are also beginning to show in places. We didn't personally run into any daylight striper action at Lake Ouachita last week, maybe because of the full moon, but Mike Bailey and his guests caught a few recently in Beaver Lake (pictured) in northwest Arkansas.

Arkansas fisheries biologists suggest removing, revising regulations

LITTLE ROCK - Biologists with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission presented a series of changes to regulations at the Commission’s formal briefing Wednesday, April 27, as part of the annual regulations cycle. The focus of many of these changes is to remove complicated regulations wherever possible and help people get started fishing.
 

Maumelle community plays host to senior fishing event, clinic

MAUMELLE – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Family and Community Fishing Program welcomes all anglers 50 years and older to Lake Valencia in Maumelle Friday, May 4, for the largest senior community fishing event in the state. The event will run from 9 a.m. until noon and is free. No registration is required.
 

Unattended fawns likely not abandoned

LITTLE ROCK – Each spring, thousands of Arkansas deer give birth to fawns. And each year, biologists with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission get calls from worried conservation-minded individuals who happen across one of these young deer sitting still in the tall grasses where it is hiding. But that abandoned fawn likely isn’t abandoned at all. In fact, its mother may be just out of sight, waiting for you to leave so she may tend to her young.
 

Newcomer Russellville soars to top of west juniors; Booneville wins west senior regional

JACKSONVILLE – On the back of the T-shirts worn by the Russellville Shooting Team read the words “In memory of Andy Thomas.” Thomas, who passed away last year after battling cancer, had been a coach and one of the people instrumental with starting the Russellville shooting program six years ago, according to Russellville head coach Dwayne Rambo.
