Contract Pilot Lands George H. Dunklin Award

PINE BLUFF – Rocky Thornburg has been flying duck surveys long before any of the current Arkansas Game and Fish Commission biologists conducting surveys were on the agency payroll. A pilot based in Pine Bluff, Thornburg began flying low-altitude aerial waterfowl surveys in 1992 to allow AGFC staff to count ducks in the state.

The bass bite has been excellent on Norfork Lake, as Lou Gabric reports out of Hummingbird Hideaway Resort. Wayne Walker (left) from Springfield, Missouri and Ray Carter from Harrisonville, Missouri, enjoyed the bass action on Norfork. Lou says striped bass, black bass and crappie are the major targets now at Norfork. Read more of his report below.

HOT SPRINGS – Stephen Tyson Jr.'s early competitive fishing Saturday in the Phoenix Bass Fishing League tournament on Lake Hamilton was interrupted by an extended fight with a fish he didn’t count on: a massive striped bass.

Spring River guide Mark Crawford is excited about the smallmouth bass action that's going on on the Spring. Mark guided Chuck Lajeunesse to a nice smallie this past week. The Spring is almost at its average flow. He says, “The smallies are biting but they have been down deep in the deeper pools. Gotta work the bottom slow with a sink tip or heavy fly. Gonna hang up a lot, so bring plenty of flies. The winter time can be the best time to catch a big smallie.”
 

Sunset Lake surrenders a 10-pound largemouth bass

BENTON – It almost seems like one of those great upsets that occasionally occurs in sports: Small Sunset Lake recently produced a whopping 10-pound black bass. Fact is, however, it’s a testament to what can happen when the right fish genetics and nature come together, even in a 28-acre lake.
