AGFC cancels meeting, closes public facilities

LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s open public forum and monthly meeting, scheduled for March 18-19 in Hope, have been canceled because of concerns caused by the spread of the coronavirus. All AGFC facilities have been closed to the public until March 30.

Hunters wanted to help AGFC turkey monitoring effort

LITTLE ROCK — Hunters can help the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission track hunting effort and success throughout turkey season this spring by signing up to be a part of the annual Spring Gobbler Hunting Survey. It’s free to participate and your responses will help shape future wild turkey management in Arkansas.

Arkansas boating accidents decrease in 2019

HOT SPRINGS — According to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s recently published 2019 Boating Accident Year-end Report, Arkansas waters saw a substantial decrease in the number of boating accidents last year compared to the year before.

Partnership promotes quail at Petit Jean

DANVILLE — The Yell County Wildlife Federation, Arkansas Tech University Fisheries and Wildlife Society and Arkansas Game and Fish Commission recently combined efforts to pave the way for better habitat on Petit Jean River Wildlife Management Area in Yell County. The team gathered for a day of work Feb. 22, removing undesirable trees on both openlands and forested areas to aid in habitat management on the area.

MAMMOTH SPRING — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will host a second public workshop at the Mammoth Spring School Complex from 10 a.m. until noon Dec. 21 to talk about a new trout management plan specific to the Spring River. The Complex is at 410 Goldsmith Ave. in Mammoth Spring.
