AGFC hosts public meetings on future of Lake Columbia fishery

MAGNOLIA — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will host a public input meeting regarding fisheries management on Lake Columbia at 7 p.m. Jan. 27 in the Grand Hall of the Reynolds Center at Southern Arkansas University. The center is at 100 East University Street in Magnolia.

Arkansas schools receive $444,000 to support conservation, wildlife education

LITTLE ROCK – Arkansas students participating in conservation education programs will have nearly a half a million dollars in support, thanks to the fines collected from poachers and other people who violate hunting and fishing laws in the state.

More than 9.4 million fish stocked in Arkansas lakes in 2019

LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas Game and Fish Commission hatcheries produced and stocked more than 9.3 million fish during 2019 to improve fishing conditions for Arkansas anglers in 2019.

No drawdown scheduled for Lake Chicot in 2020

LAKE VILLAGE — Lake Chicot anglers and landowners looking at a newly printed copy of the 2020 Arkansas Fishing Guidebook may notice an error on Page 60 that may concern them. The Lake Chicot profile on that page incorrectly states a drawdown will be held July 8-Dec. 31 of 2020. The drawdown was conducted during 2019 as part of the lake’s fishery management plan, but the wording also was included in this year’s guidebook.

Learn to burn at the AGFC’s prescribed fire workshops

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, in cooperation with Quail Forever and the Arkansas Forestry Association, will host special workshops for land managers on how and when to use fire to promote better wildlife habitat on their property. Workshops are scheduled for Ash Flat and Jonesboro in the next few weeks.

Youths experience squirrel, raccoon hunting at AYSSP getaway

CASSCOE – Six youths from towns throughout the state were able to enjoy a weekend of squirrel and coon hunting, trap shooting and more thanks to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Arkansas Youth Shooting Sports Program.
