AGFC holds CWD public meeting in Batesville Jan. 30

BATESVILLE — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will hold a public meeting to discuss the recent discovery of chronic wasting disease in Independence County at the University of Arkansas Community College, Room 902 of the Nursing and Allied Health Building in Batesville at 6 p.m. Jan. 30. The college is at 2005 White Drive.

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation will host a free Kids Zone at the 30th annual Arkansas Big Buck Classic Jan. 24-26. The Kids Zone will be housed in the Farm and Ranch Building of the Arkansas State Fairgrounds and will be open during the entire event.

HOT SPRINGS - Dozens of 4- to 5-year-old Virginia pine trees once destined for people’s homes during the holidays are now standing watch over anglers’ presents at the bottom of Lake Hamilton. Thanks to a continued partnership with McAlpine Tree Farms in Bismarck, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission biologists and volunteer anglers have been able to add many new pieces of fish habitat around bank-fishing accesses at Lakes Hamilton and Catherine in Hot Springs.

EUDORA — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will hold a special public comment meeting to discuss water level and fisheries management on Grand Lake in Chicot County from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30 at the Eudora Chamber of Commerce Building. The building is at 125 South Main St.

Commission hears 2019 elk, bear harvest reports

LITTLE ROCK – Arkansas’s bear and elk harvests showed slight declines during the 2019 season, but biologists with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission said much of the decrease could be attributed to last year’s extremely productive hard mast crop during presentations to Commissioners at today’s regularly scheduled meeting here.
