SPRINGDALE – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission unveiled its fifth and largest nature center to date in the heart of Northwest Arkansas in front of a small in-person gathering and for countless others attending via Facebook. The J.B. and Johnelle Hunt Family Ozark Highlands Nature Center stands as the crown jewel in the AGFC’s network of education facilities throughout the state, and will begin to welcome guests into its exhibit area beginning tomorrow morning by scheduled appointment.

Commission authorizes funding for critical habitat-enhancement projects

SPRINGDALE – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission authorized $760,000 to be allocated to five engineering projects vital for fish and wildlife conservation during today’s meeting. The meeting took place at the newly constructed J.B. and Johnelle Hunt Family Ozark Highlands Nature Center, preceding a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the location.

Roadwork an annual certainty on WMAs

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission owns more than 385,000 acres of wildlife management areas to offer wildlife habitat and public hunting and angling opportunities in The Natural State, but much more goes into public access than a parking location. Last year the AGFC spent more than $678,000 to maintain the vast network of roads on WMAs, and that is a shadow of what is truly needed to keep these access points open.

SPRINGDALE — With its much-anticipated grand opening this Friday, the J.B. and Johnelle Hunt Family Ozark Highlands Nature Center is sure to become another must-see venue in Northwest Arkansas. While the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission anticipates well over 100,000 visitors per year at the new center, social-distancing measures must be kept in place during the current pandemic. 

Rice breast in ducks unsightly but no cause for alarm

LITTLE ROCK — Talk about rice in Arkansas, and the relationship to ducks and duck hunting isn’t far behind. One type of “rice” hunters may discover when duck hunting has nothing to do with Arkansas’s favorite grain, and often fuels calls to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s biologists and wildlife health line.

Christmas and antlerless-only deer hunts to wrap up 2020-21 modern gun deer season

Arkansans looking for one last chance to bag a deer at the end of the season this year will have three additional days to take a doe after the Modern Gun Christmas Holiday Hunt to fill their tag. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission unanimously voted in May to move the Private Land Antlerless Only Deer Hunt from the middle of October to the last days of December in hopes to increase participation in the hunt.
