Bergman athlete arrows college scholarship with archery

BERGMAN — Fanfare often surrounds national signing day for high-school seniors accepting college scholarships to play basketball, football, baseball and softball, but many other high-school athletes will go to college next fall thanks to other sports. In the case of Bergman senior Tripp Siemiller, it was bending a bow and launching an arrow with pinpoint precision that led to his offer from the University of Pikeville in Kentucky to shoot at the collegiate level.

Biologists looking for sightings of Arkansas’s least ‘watchable’ wildlife species

LITTLE ROCK — If you look on iNaturalist, you’ll find all sorts of surveys where people can record sightings of their favorite wildlife species to help with projects conducted by researchers and biologists around the world. One such study, Moles of Arkansas, may require a little more digging, as it is asking participants to record sightings of eastern moles in The Natural State.

Firing line hot at Scatter Creek range

PARAGOULD — Recreational shooters and hunters can now find an upgraded experience at William E. Brewer Scatter Creek Wildlife Management Area after the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission recently completed a $175,000 renovation to the Jack Cox Firing Range on the site. The range was closed for the renovation in March and reopened just in time for last week’s Independence Day holiday.

One summer night two years ago, Arkansas Game and Fish Commissioners and other agency staff were meeting at Stan Jones Mallard Lodge near Alicia, in northeast Arkansas. Bobby Martin, beginning his sixth year on the Commission, had just been voted by his fellow commissioners as chairman, and summer had officially arrived.

LITTLE ROCK — Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders today announced that Brandon Adams will serve as the newest member of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Brandon’s seven-year term will last until July 1, 2030.

WMA Deer Permit Hunt applications available July 1-31

LITTLE ROCK – Deer hunters shooting for some of Arkansas’s best public land opportunities will have the full month of July to apply for one of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Wildlife Management Area Deer Permit hunts. Applications for these hunts are available from 8 a.m. July 1 until midnight July 31 through the AGFC’s licensing system at www.agfc.com.
