AGFC receives funding for one quail biologist, seeks approval for six more

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, which has already received matching funds from the Natural Resources Conservation Service to bring aboard a biologist devoted to habitat restoration for the northern bobwhite, is hoping that more NRCS money could be coming its way to bolster the AGFC’s quail initiative.
Waterfowl hunter survey sheds light on WMA use

Four out of 10 Arkansas resident waterfowl hunters have pursued ducks on wildlife management areas for six years or less, according to a recent survey completed by the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Survey Research Center. The survey was part of an increased effort by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to learn more about the men and women using The Natural State’s WMA system.
Anglers encouraged to keep stripers for conservation

Cook elected Chair of Arkansas Game and Fish Commission

Steve Cook of Malvern was recently elected Chairman of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission at its regularly scheduled June meeting in Jonesboro. Cook has served six years on the Commission, and this marks his seventh and final year to serve for the sportsmen and women of Arkansas and its natural resources.
Commission approves new regulation concerning nonresident waterfowl hunters on wildlife management areas

Commissioners with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission approved changes to Arkansas’s Nonresident Waterfowl Wildlife Management Area Permit at today’s regularly scheduled meeting in Jonesboro. The changes are an attempt to provide additional hunting opportunity to residents during waterfowl season on AGFC-controlled public lands.
Alligator hunt permit application period June 15-30

Applications for the 2017 Arkansas alligator season will be available at www.agfc.com, beginning June 15. The deadline to apply is midnight, June 30.
Lake Chicot receives new plumbing for fish

Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Fisheries staff have spent the last three weeks chopping and fitting PVC pipes to improve Lake Chicot, but they aren’t concerned with how the water is flowing. The PVC is being used to create complex fish attractors to sink at strategic points in the lake to offer anglers places where fish are likely to congregate.
