JONESBORO — One of the great rewards from a day spent in freezing temperatures chasing ducks is the unmistakable flavor of waterfowl. Though many hunters use only the breast meat, a whole roasted mallard on a serving dish is a great asset to any dinner table. It takes some effort, but with a little practice a duck can quickly be turned into a main course.

WENATCHEE, WASHINGTON — Chronic wasting disease was first detected in Arkansas in 2016, and since that time the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has worked tirelessly to map out exactly where the disease may have spread throughout The Natural State. Dr. Jenn Ballard recently joined radio host John Kruse on his nationally syndicated show, America Outdoors Radio, to explain some of the revolutionary techniques the AGFC has used to monitor this serious deer disease.

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is asking for public input into the next version of its Reservoir Black Bass Management Plan, but time is running out. For the plan to stay on track and be published in spring 2022, the open comment period must be closed by Nov. 30. Taking only a few minutes to answer three questions can offer tremendous insight into the opinions of anglers and their desires for the future of fishing in Arkansas. MEMPHIS — The recent changes announced to Arkansas’s greentree reservoir management have drawn the attention of many duck hunters in The Natural State, and thanks to the help of Ducks Unlimited, the word about Arkansas’s efforts to restore flooded timber duck hunting are being broadcast on a national scale. Three episodes of DU’s national podcast are available, which cover the science behind greentree reservoirs, the need for change and the plans the AGFC has to restore some of these damaged wetlands while maintaining as much public access as possible.

Biologists with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission urge all hunters and anglers alike to pull the plug on invasive species by pulling the plug from their boats after every trip to the water.

STUTTGART — Looking for a spot to call your own for a day or even a weekend during duck season? Check out some of the online draw opportunities available through the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. In addition to permit hunts on Steve N. Wilson Raft Creek Bottoms WMA, the Red Cut Slough tract at Cypress Bayou WMA, the Conway George tract at Sheffield Nelson Dagmar WMA and Freddie Black Choctaw Island West Unit WMA, the AGFC will have up to 45 privately owned flooded rice fields available to hunt by permit through its special duck hunting application process.
