Harmon, Jacks top pack at 2020 Commissioners’ Cup youth bass tournament

HOT SPRINGS – There was no “blast off” of boats or large crowd to watch the weigh-in at this year’s Commissioners’ Cup youth bass tournament, presented by Xpress Boats, but the fishing fever was no less evident in the ranks of high school and junior high anglers fishing across the state Saturday, June 20. At the end of the day, it was the team of Kanon Harmon of Haskell and Brody Jacks of Tull who stood above the field with an impressive limit of fish from Millwood Lake in Southwest Arkansas. Their six-bass limit measured 102.5 inches, nearly half a foot longer than second place.

LITTLE ROCK — Even though Free Fishing Weekend has passed, that doesn’t mean it’s time to hang up the fishing rods for the year. An annual fishing license in Arkansas is only $10.50, and anglers can find a brand new resource from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to teach them some basic techniques to improve their chances on the water. Canceled hatchery fishing derbies result in bonus catfish stockings throughout Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK — Precautions to limit the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19 have forced the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to cancel the annual fishing derbies held at its five fish hatcheries in June, but anglers throughout the state will still be able to enjoy some quality time chasing catfish. AGFC hatcheries are delivering thousands of pounds of catchable-sized catfish to small, publicly accessible ponds throughout Arkansas to prepare for Free Fishing Weekend, June 12-14.
