Angling to keep your distance outdoors

LITTLE ROCK — With many states issuing orders to “stay at home” or “shelter in place,” some Arkansas anglers may worry that their favorite outdoor pursuits are in jeopardy. Although a couple of these states have ordered partial or complete halts to fishing within their borders, most, including Arkansas, are trying to keep the outdoors open for people to enjoy during this time of social distancing. Even in states with “stay at home” orders, outdoor exercise and recreation like fishing are listed as exceptions and healthy alternatives to sitting inside. People still need to be mindful of extending the same precautions they have in indoor settings when heading to their favorite fishing location. Here are a few things to keep in mind before loading the boat or car with the rods, reels and minnow bucket.

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission urges hikers and other outdoors enthusiasts to be aware of hunting activities that may be taking place while on public land this spring.

Printed permits required for Camp Robinson WMA turkey hunts

LITTLE ROCK — Officials at Camp Joseph T. Robinson Maneuver Training Center are asking all hunters who drew a Camp Robinson Wildlife Management Area turkey permit hunt to use paper copies of their drawn permit for the upcoming season instead of electronic copies on their smartphones.

Save on hunter and boating education courses in April

LITTLE ROCK — Kalkomey, the online source for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Hunter and Boating Education programs, is offering a special 25 percent discount on online courses for Hunter Education and Boating Education certification for two weeks in response to the coronavirus and the cancellation of in-person courses.
