Renovated Lake Monticello sees first batch of Florida Bass

MONTICELLO — Arkansas Game and Fish Commission biologists stocked nearly 1,000 extra-large pure Florida largemouth bass fingerlings into Lake Monticello during May to lay the foundation for trophy-sized bass potential in this southeast Arkansas reservoir.

ARKADELPHIA — Not much has changed with John Duncan’s crappie fishing tactics on DeGray Lake in southwest Arkansas since he adopted forward-facing sonar about four years ago, except the speed at which he finds the fish for his clients.

Richard Reeves and his son, Daniel, from Walls,Mississippi, landed some Greers Ferry Lake walleye while fishing with guide Tommy Cauley recently. Tommy says that if you can find them, walleye will eat on nightcrawlers and crankbaits in 10-25 feet of water at Greers Ferry Lake.

Vaughn Greenway and Daniel Romine teamed to catch five largemouth bass totalling 15.11 pounds, including a 5.48-pound Big Bass, in the Tuesday Night Black Bass fishing tournament out of WestRock Landing at Lake Maumelle this week. The tournament was expected to be postponed a week because of Central Arkansas Water's closure to boat access this week, but CAW reopened the lake earlier than expected after treatment of hydrilla on Monday.

Roger Fisher lived up to his surname, landing his personnel best largemouth bass on a creek off Norfork Lake last weekend while kayak fishing. The fish was 19.5 inches long and 5 pounds, caught in about 2 feet of water on a white Rooster Tail. Roger and his nephew, Andy Bell, found largemouths feeing on bait balls in the creek and landed a bunch; Roger also caught two at one time on a square bill.

AGFC improving parking area at Lower White Oak Lake
