Hunter takes first deer at 77 years old

CAMDEN – You’re never too hold to harvest your first deer, as Ron Goza proved late last year.

Goza is 77, and the button buck he took recently allowed him to receive the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s certificate for “My First Deer.”

Deer harvest surpasses 200,000 for sixth straight year

LITTLE ROCK - There’s still a month and a half left in deer season for archery hunters, but Arkansas’s deer harvest already topped the 200,000-mark at the conclusion of the second modern gun youth hunt held Jan. 6-7. This is the sixth straight year Arkansas hunters have reached this milestone.

Waldron wildlife officer, Monticello wildlife staff honored at NWTF banquet

BENTON - Corporal Mac Davis of Waldron and the members of the Monticello Regional Office Wildlife Division staff of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission were recognized for their commitment to conservation and outdoor traditions at the annual State Awards and Hall of Fame Banquet of the National Wild Turkey Federation’ Arkansas Chapter held at the Benton Event Center in Benton, Jan. 6.

CWD confirmed in three NW Arkansas counties

LITTLE ROCK – Chronic wasting disease, detected in Arkansas almost two years ago, has been found in three more counties. Four white-tailed deer in Benton, Washington and Sebastian counties recently tested positive for the deadly disease, according to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.

Biological samples reveal 70 new cases of CWD, no new counties affected

Seventy new cases of chronic wasting disease have been found in Arkansas since deer season opened in September, according to samples collected by Arkansas Game and Fish Commission biologists, taxidermists and veterinarians. Although the number of positive cases is high, no samples from new areas of the state have been found so far. The disease has been found in Boone, Carroll, Madison, Marion, Newton, Pope and Searcy counties since September.

Youth hunters make memories at AGFC mentored hunts
