HOT SPRINGS — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is offering up to $1,000 to youth fishing clubs for completing habitat projects in their home waters to help improve fishing opportunities on their home lakes.

With warmer water temperature comes an inevitable increase in fish mortality, even with catch-and-release fishing. This is especially true for striped bass pulled from Arkansas’s top striped bass fisheries. It may seem counterintuitive, but keeping your striped bass can actually increase the number of stripers available for other anglers.
Big Buzz Bass tournament returns to Lake Maumelle

The sixth annual Big Buzz Bass tournament presented by Bradford Marine and ATV returns to Lake Maumelle June 12, with more than $6,000 in prizes up for grabs. For the third consecutive year the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is working with 103.7 FM The Buzz to support the tournament and Arkansas bass fishing.

LITTLE ROCK — The cats with the tags are back, and this year, they’ll be swimming in Boyle Park Pond just in time for The Big Catch, a community fishing event and health fair on May 22 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants can win prizes, enjoy music and some much needed fresh air in addition to the free fishing fun, courtesy of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and Community First Alliance.
White Oak is white hot for bass

CAMDEN — Stephen Tyson Jr. nearly called his shot on the timing when double-digit fish would start to show at Lower White Oak Lake in Ouachita County. He’d been gradually catching bigger and bigger fish on the lake during the last few years, and this March, he finally connected with a true 10-pounder in the recently renovated lake.
