Lake Greeson gets massive habitat overhaul

KIRBY — Last week, 21 biologists and staff from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission worked with staff from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Greeson Project Office and Daisy State Park to cut, drag and sink more than 1,000 trees in 101 locations at Lake Greeson in southwest Arkansas. The trees will serve as habitat for crappie, bass and other sport fish and will offer anglers excellent locations to target on the aging reservoir.

AGFC completes final winter trout stockings at community ponds

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Family and Community Fishing Program will conclude its final trout stockings for the 2020-21 winter stocking season this week at ponds throughout Arkansas. Originally planned for last week, the stockings were delayed because of the winter weather event that iced over most roads and ponds in The Natural State. 

AGFC’S Hogan hatchery improvements to increase efficiency

LONOKE — Thanks to a planned renovation, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Joe Hogan State Fish Hatchery will soon be able to increase efficiency and provide even more benefit to Arkansas anglers. The next phase of the Hogan renovation, slated for this year, includes the engineering and construction of an indoor spawning and hatching facility for warmwater species raised at the hatchery.

MAYFLOWER — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Habitat for the Holidays Program supplies anglers throughout the state with used and leftover Christmas trees to sweeten up their own fishing locations, but anglers at Lake Conway’s Lawrence Landing saw a bonus batch of trees thanks to Lowe’s home improvement store in Conway.
