Buffalo River Elk Festival canceled, elk permits to be drawn online

JASPER — The Buffalo River Elk Festival, originally planned for June 26-27 has been canceled, according to a social media post today from the festival planning committee. The cancellation was in accordance with Arkansas Department of Health guidelines amid the continuing battle to slow the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19.

LITTLE ROCK — Officials at Camp Joseph T. Robinson Maneuver Training Center are asking all hunters who drew a Camp Robinson Wildlife Management Area turkey permit hunt to use paper copies of their drawn permit for the upcoming season instead of electronic copies on their smartphones.

The second split of Arkansas’s waterfowl season is underway, and high water in some portions of the state has made hunting on some public areas near the White River a bit more challenging with many more flooded acres of habitat for the ducks to spread out.
