LITTLE ROCK — Talk about rice in Arkansas, and the relationship to ducks and duck hunting isn’t far behind. One type of “rice” hunters may discover when duck hunting has nothing to do with Arkansas’s favorite grain, and often fuels calls to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s biologists and wildlife health line.
First youth and veteran waterfowl hunt of Arkansas’s 2020-21 season Saturday

LITTLE ROCK - The ducks have a brief rest between the segments of hunting season, but on Saturday, the first of two youth and veteran waterfowl hunts will have hunters back in the woods in search of Arkansas’s premiere game species. This year’s Special Active Duty Military and Veteran Waterfowl Hunt will again take place alongside Arkansas’s Special Youth Waterfowl Hunt Dec. 5, 2020, and Feb. 6, 2021.

LITTLE ROCK — Joe Morgan, the vice-chairman of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, died Saturday morning from complications of pulmonary fibrosis. He was 76 years old.

LITTLE ROCK — Duck hunters have been cleaning and painting decoys, scouting property, brushing blinds and cleaning shotguns in anticipation of the opening day of duck season on Nov. 21. Every year a handful of them forget their most important pieces of equipment: a valid hunting license, including federal and state duck stamps and Harvest Information Program registration.
New waterfowl hunting opportunities through online drawing

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will accept applications for special permit hunts during the opening weekend of waterfowl season from Thursday, Nov. 12 through Sunday, Nov. 15. These weekly drawings will continue throughout the 2020-21 Arkansas waterfowl season.
Cypress Bayou changes to permit-only hunts; Raft Creek draw modified

LITTLE ROCK – Following two seasons of open hunting without a permit system, the Red Cut Slough portion of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Cypress Bayou Wildlife Management Area between Beebe and Ward this duck season will be accessed on weekends via an online draw for permits, as well as requiring permits without a draw on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

LITTLE ROCK — Hunting opportunities on the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s newly expanded Waterfowl Rice Incentive Conservation Enhancement program will officially begin with white-fronted goose opportunities on Nov. 14-15. Applications for these draw hunt opportunities on private rice fields will be accepted Nov. 5-8.
