AGFC’s Pepper’s Pond welcomes Super Retriever dogs

MAYFLOWER – Pepper’s Pond, on the Camp Robinson Special Use Area and owned by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, will play host to the fifth Arkansas Retriever Challenge Super Retriever Series Event Friday through Sunday, June 1-3.

Meyer Mississippi Flyway Waterfowl Officer of the Year

LITTLE ROCK – The Mississippi Flyway Council recently named Arkansas Wildlife Officer Cpl. Block Meyer of Cross County as its 2017 Waterfowl Protection Officer of the Year. Meyer was selected from a vast field of candidates throughout the entire flyway, including Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee and the Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. This is the second time in Meyer’s seven years with the AGFC that he has been bestowed this prestigious honor.
Raft Creek restoration developing into duck magnet

GEORGETOWN – Despite horrible conditions throughout the state for much of the 2017-18 waterfowl season, one wildlife management area has continued to provide hunters with increasingly good hunts since its purchase. Steve N. Wilson Raft Creek Bottoms WMA in White County turned in impressive harvest numbers, especially considering the conditions.

Access for hunting, angling highlight 2017

LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission added more than 2,220 acres of access for hunters and anglers in 2017. Land for waterfowl hunting, upland game and bat conservation highlight the improvements for wildlife. A state-of-the-art weigh-in facility in Northwest Arkansas, new access for paddlers on Crooked Creek and additional bank fishing opportunity on one of the AGFC’s oldest lakes round out some of the improvements for 2017 for anglers.
Conservation component at Leadership Arkansas opens eyes

A recent group of participants with the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce and Associated Industries of Arkansas recently had the opportunity to see what duck hunting is all about through their participation in Leadership Arkansas. The special 9-month workshop recruits highly motivated individuals to get first-hand experience on the dynamic interactions between cities, governmental units and the people they serve.
