Youth fishing clubs can earn funding through AGFC habitat awards program

HOT SPRINGS — With schools back in session and summer fishing tournaments beginning to wane, many youth fishing organizations are looking for ways to keep everyone’s thoughts on the water. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has a special award available that’s a great way to keep youth engaged in the outdoors and offers them a way to earn a few dollars for their fishing club.

Youth hunters need AGFC ID number to check game, apply for hunts

LITTLE ROCK — All hunters, including those under 16, will need to have a free, AGFC-issued Customer Identification Number to check big game or participate in permit drawings beginning this season.

Arkansas youths capture multiple national shooting sports titles

LINN CREEK, MO — COVID-19 may have caused the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to cancel its regional and state championship trap tournaments during the summer, but Arkansas Youth Shooting Sports Program participants still showed their stuff at this year’s Grand National Academics Integrity Marksmanship (AIM) Program Shoot at the Grand American Trap Shoot held Aug. 4-14. 

Arkansas wildlife officers issuing ice cream citations to kids

LITTLE ROCK – Wildlife officers are on the lookout for Arkansas youth, and they have a sweet treat in store for those they “catch” enjoying the outdoors in a healthy way. Thanks to a continued partnership with Sonic restaurants, members of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Enforcement Division are outfitted with a special book full of ice cream “citations” they can hand out to youths during their daily activities.

Young hunters check 882 during youth turkey hunt

LITTLE ROCK — Despite a major cold front and Easter services for many families last weekend, the annual Arkansas youth turkey hunt showed a 27 percent increase from last year. Hunters under the age of 16 checked 882 birds during the two-day hunt to open the 2020 spring turkey season.
