Anglers can celebrate Trout Day Saturday at MacArthur Park

LITTLE ROCK – It’s not easy for some people in other parts of Arkansas to make it up to one of north Arkansas’s famous trout-fishing locations, so the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Family and Community Fishing Program brings the rainbow trout to other areas around the state.

Youths learn gun safety, outdoors appreciation in mentored hunt

LITTLE ROCK – Randy Douglas treasures the memories of his first exposure to hunting and fishing, beginning around the age of 7, and he’s been determined to pay that back to today’s youths. Douglas hosted 10 fledgling outdoors participants, during the weekend of the November Arkansas youth deer hunt.  Two of whom had won spots for the hunt through The Big Catch, a community fishing event held twice a year in Little Rock. This year, Douglas followed that up on Jan. 1-2 by taking three more young hunters and families to learn about hunting and the outdoors.

STUTTGART — Greater White-fronted geese (AKA Specklebelly or Barbelly) are highly sought by waterfowl hunters because they are relatively easy to decoy, respond to calls, and provide table fare second only to sandhill crane in the waterfowling world. Although it is hard to beat a perfectly seared specklebelly breast, Arkansas’s long goose season provides ample opportunity to try various recipes, and who doesn’t love taco Tuesday?
