Commission seeks comment on relaxed predator hunting regulations

LITTLE ROCK — Turtles are on the move all over Arkansas, and many can be found alongside roads in rural and suburban areas thanks to a wet, relatively cool spring that created excellent foraging areas in ditches and grassy areas beside the hustle of daily traffic. Many turtles are finishing up their annual breeding and egg-laying cycles, which also puts them on the move.

Operation Dry Water promotes increased safety during extended holiday weekend

LITTLE ROCK — With Independence Day falling on a Thursday this year, many people are taking full advantage of an extended stay at their favorite lakeside retreat. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is asking that everyone enjoying the revelry be aware of the dangers brought about by drinking while aboard a boat. To help make the weekend safe, wildlife officers throughout Arkansas are gearing up for Operation Dry Water July 5-7. 

Twenty-Nine Arkansans draw elk hunting permits

JASPER – Twenty-nine Arkansans will have the hunt of a lifetime this fall as they chase elk on public land in The Natural State. Their names were chosen during the 22nd Annual Buffalo River Elk Festival in Jasper Saturday. 

Governor Hutchinson announces Anne Marie Doramus as new Arkansas Game and Fish Commissioner

LITTLE ROCK ​– Governor Asa Hutchinson today announced the appointment of Anne Marie Doramus of Little Rock to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. She is the first woman appointed to a full term on the commission in the state’s history.

Lake Chicot drawdown to begin July 8

LAKE VILLAGE — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, along with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will conduct a 6-foot drawdown of Lake Chicot to improve the fishery and allow lakeside property owners the opportunity to repair boathouses and docks on the waterfront.
 

Second public meeting on DeGray Lake scheduled for Thursday

ARKADELPHIA — The second of two public meetings being held by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission on DeGray Lake will be from 6 to 8 p.m., June 27 at the Arkadelphia Parks and Recreation Department at 2555 Twin Rivers Drive in Arkadelphia.
