Fourche Bottoms cleanup Saturday

LITTLE ROCK – The Friends of Fourche Creek will host their annual City Wide Cleanup, beginning at 8 a.m., March 10. All interested participants can meet inside the Arkansas State Fairgrounds northwest lot. Cleanup assignments will be made at the rally point (2600 Howard Street, Little Rock).

LITTLE ROCK – When Arkansas’s deer herd reached a scant 500 individual animals statewide in the 1940s, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission stocked deer from other states to bring the population back. The same practice brought back Arkansas’s bears, alligators and elk. Even turkey populations rebounded after stockings from transplanted wild birds. In all of these cases, stocking may have been the easiest piece of the puzzle to see, but it was far from the complete story.

Biologists asking motorists to report road-killed deer for disease research

LITTLE ROCK – Biologists are ramping up roadkill surveys for the next month and are asking all Arkansans to report any dead deer they see along roads and highways. Road-killed deer offer biologists a chance to monitor for chronic wasting disease throughout the state without the need to kill deer to obtain samples.

Biologists and information professionals have worked together to list all known fish attractor locations placed by the AGFC in the last decade.
 

Ballistic vests to receive second life with Arkansas enforcement officers

LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission approved a minute order today granting 167 ballistic vests from AGFC inventory to Vest for Life, an organization that distributes functional body armor to law enforcement agencies that do not have the budget to purchase them.

GEORGETOWN – Despite horrible conditions throughout the state for much of the 2017-18 waterfowl season, one wildlife management area has continued to provide hunters with increasingly good hunts since its purchase. Steve N. Wilson Raft Creek Bottoms WMA in White County turned in impressive harvest numbers, especially considering the conditions.
