Reward offered for tagged crappie in Horseshoe Lake

HUGHES – Horseshoe Lake, an oxbow once part of the Mississippi River in eastern Arkansas, has long been noted for good crappie production, but recent studies have shown a mostly smaller, younger fish population. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is in the second year of a tagged crappie study to determine the cause of crappie mortality, and anglers can help.

VICKSBURG – A tissue sample collected Jan. 25 from a free-ranging white-tailed deer in extreme southern Issaquena County, Mississippi, returned the first known positive test of chronic wasting disease in the state.

Archers take aim at state championship through regional tournaments

LITTLE ROCK – Close to 4,200 students filed into middle and high school gymnasiums across The Natural State last weekend to take their shot at qualifying for the Arkansas National Archery in the Schools Program State Championship. Regional shoots were held in 12 locations, covering every region of the state. 

New weir regulates water level at Grand Lake

EUDORA – Anglers and residents near Grand Lake in Chicot County can expect a little more stability in the lake’s water level, thanks to the installation of a new weir in the drainage on the Northwest side of the lake, which was completed Jan. 24.

Angler input welcome at Upper White Oak Lake public meeting
