FORT SMITH – The Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center will host a special introduction to beekeeping at 1 p.m., Feb. 10 to teach visitors the basics on setting up and maintaining a healthy honeybee hive on their own.

Tracking trumpeter swan leads back to Iowa research group

HEBER SPRINGS – Teamwork between wildlife photographers, birders and others around the country determined that a collared trumpeter swan spotted in Cleburne County recently was part of a tracking survey that began last summer in Iowa.

As Karen Rowe, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s nongame migratory bird program coordinator, said, “It literally took a village to find out where this bird had originated.”

Archery in the Schools regional tournaments Feb. 10

LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas National Archery in the Schools Program’s 2018 regional tournaments will be held at a dozen schools throughout the state on Feb. 10.

ANASP was established by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission in 2008 and has grown tremendously.

“We have about 550 schools participating in the program throughout the state,” said Curtis Gray, ANASP coordinator for the AGFC. “And we’re always looking to add more.”

$2 million Federal grant for Jonesboro range project approved

JONESBORO – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has secured a $2 million grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to be used in the construction of a new shooting sports complex for northeast Arkansas.
