Little Red River trout management, habitat work update June 6

HEBER SPRINGS — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will host a special public meeting about the progress made in habitat work and trout management efforts on the Little Red River below Greers Ferry Dam. The open public meeting will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., June 6 in Room Four of the Heber Springs Community Center at 201 Bobbie Jean Lane in Heber Springs. 

Increased Arkansas River level may result in flooded homes around Lake Atkins

ATKINS — As the Arkansas River continues to rise to record levels at Arthur V. Ormond Lock and Dam, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission warns all residents around Lake Atkins in Pope County to prepare for possible flooding from the lake if conditions worsen.

LITTLE ROCK — An increased potential for flooding exists for residences around Craig D. Campbell Lake Conway Reservoir in Faulkner County and Lake Atkins in Pope County this week. The greatest concern for flooding may begin as early as May 29 and continue until the Arkansas River recedes below Major Flood elevation.

Rise in Arkansas River closes Pine Bluff nature center

PINE BLUFF — The Governor Mike Huckabee Delta Rivers Nature Center will be closed until further notice. With major flooding in the area, the City of Pine Bluff has closed the gate at Regional Park Road, blocking access to the center and Harbor Oaks Golf Club.

Commissioners’ Cup bass tournament focused on next generation of anglers

LITTLE ROCK – Thanks to the efforts of the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation and many volunteers, and donations from Arkansas Game and Fish Commissioners, high school anglers in Arkansas have a new pinnacle to pursue in bass fishing: the Commissioners’ Cup. In its inaugural year, the tournament will take place on Lake Hamilton June 1-2.
