AGFC to hold public meeting on progress of Lake Poinsett renovation

HARRISBURG - Fisheries biologists with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will hold a special public meeting on the progress of the Lake Poinsett renovation 6 p.m., Nov. 8, at Calvary Church in Harrisburg. The focus of the meeting will be updating all interested parties in the overall plan and timeline of the project as well as highlighting milestones and work that may have gone unnoticed so far. 
 

Lake Dardanelle crappie worth more than a meal

RUSSELLVILLE - Crappie anglers on Lake Dardanelle may be able to win more than a fish dinner if they notice a special yellow tag behind the dorsal fin of fish they catch in the next few months. Fisheries biologists with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission have been busy netting and tagging several hundred crappie with special reward tags as part of a study on the crappie fishery this year. 
 

Public meetings to focus on dying bottomland hardwoods at Henry Gray Hurricane Lake WMA

BALD KNOB - Roughly 212 acres of hardwood trees on Henry Gray Hurricane Lake Wildlife Management Area have died within the last few months and another 800 acres are showing signs of severe stress. This area within the WMA’s south greentree reservoir is an important habitat component for wintering waterfowl and a popular area with duck hunters searching for flooded hardwood hunting in Arkansas.

Commission denies petition to close turtle harvest

LITTLE ROCK - The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission voted today to formally deny the petition of a complete closure on turtle harvest and heard the first reading of six new regulations changes aimed at managing the commercial harvest of turtles in the state.

Commission passes nonresident waterfowl permit changes effective 2019-20 season

FORT SMITH – Commissioners voted to amend nonresident waterfowl permits to be valid only during certain portions of the duck season at today’s regularly scheduled Commission meeting at the Temple Live Event Center in Fort Smith. The change, however, will not go into effect until the 2019-20 waterfowl season.

Governor Hutchinson proclaims Sept. 15-22 Arkansas Hunting and Fishing Week

LITTLE ROCK - Gov. Asa Hutchinson signed a special proclamation today in the Governor’s Conference Room at the state capitol recognizing Sept. 15-22, 2018 as Arkansas Hunting and Fishing Week. He announced the celebration in front of a room filled with dozens of representatives from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, outdoor industry and nonprofit organizations who partner with the agency to promote conservation throughout the state.
