Choctaw Island WMA emergency closure approved

LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has approved the emergency closure of the Freddie Black Choctaw Island Wildlife Management Area Deer Research Area East Unit. The WMA will be closed March 2-3 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has approved emergency closures of portions of Trusten Holder, Seven Devils, Cut-off Creek and Big Lake wildlife management areas next week. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Wildlife Services, in cooperation with the AGFC, will be conducting aerial gunning operations on the WMAs aimed at reducing feral hog populations on the WMAs.
Ballistic vests to receive second life with Arkansas enforcement officers

LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission approved a minute order today granting 167 ballistic vests from AGFC inventory to Vest for Life, an organization that distributes functional body armor to law enforcement agencies that do not have the budget to purchase them.

Commission allows carry of handguns for personal protection on WMAs

LITTLE ROCK - The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission approved a regulation change today which will allow people to openly carry a handgun for personal protection while on any wildlife management area or Commission-controlled property or lake.

LITTLE ROCK – Chronic wasting disease, detected in Arkansas almost two years ago, has been found in three more counties. Four white-tailed deer in Benton, Washington and Sebastian counties recently tested positive for the deadly disease, according to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.
Changes to fishing regulations take effect Jan. 1

LITTLE ROCK - Anglers venturing out for some New Year’s Day fishing will find a few changes to fishing regulations on waters throughout Arkansas this year, many of which were passed to make things a little easier to get on the water and have fun fishing this year.
